A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred until 8 October the hearing on charge framing against 34 accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case over the murder of truck driver Md Hossain in Mohammadpur during the July Uprising.
Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed the new date after former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, one of the key accused now in jail, was taken to the International Crimes Tribunal.
Belal Hossain, bench assistant of the court, confirmed the development, saying prison authorities could not produce Palak before the court, prompting the judge to reschedule the hearing.
Court sources said 10 of the 34 accused are currently in custody.
According to the case statement, truck driver Md Hossain was shot dead in Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on 19 July 2024 while returning home after parking his truck at Gabtoli. He died on the spot.
On 31 August 2024, Hossain’s mother Rina Begum filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station.
Following an investigation, Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman of Mohammadpur Police Station submitted a charge sheet against 34 people, including Sheikh Hasina, to the court on 23 November 2025.
The charge sheet names former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain and its general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan among the accused.
Other accused include Asif Ahmed, Tarequzzaman Rajib, Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, Nur Mohammad Sentu, Tofael Siddique alias Tuhin, Rahman Mia alias AKM Ohidur Rahman, Palash, Oliur Rahman, Khalilur Rahman, Emon, SM Riazul Huq Tamim, Masudur Rahman Biplob, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan alias MA Sattar, Parvez alias Golden Parvez, Suman Mia alias Kailla Suman, Milon Hossain, Sohel alias Bhuiyan Sohel alias Buniya Sohel, Salim Ullah Salu, Irfan, Muhammad Badiul Alam alias Badiuzzaman, Furqan Hossain, Shahjahan Khan, Sajjad Hossain, Farooq Hossain Ovi and Naimul Hasan Russel.
