Tanzim Wahab has been reappointed as the director general of the Bangladesh National Museum for one year, with the Ministry of Public Administration issuing a notification on the appointment.

The appointment was made under the Bangladesh National Museum Act, 2022, on the condition that Tanzim Wahab relinquishes any involvement with other professions, businesses or government, semi-government, private institutions or organisations from the date of joining, the notification said.

According to the notification, he will serve as the museum’s director general for one year from the date of his joining.

Tanzim Wahab previously worked as a curator at the Berlin-based Borderline Europe Foundation in Germany. Earlier, he served as head of arts programmes at the Bengal Foundation and festival director of the Chobi Mela International Photography Festival.

He has also served as the Asia chair of the World Press Photo jury board and participated in various international programmes in key roles.

After his reappointment, Tanzim Wahab said in a press release that special initiatives would be taken in the coming days to make the Bangladesh National Museum more youth- and child-friendly.

He said the museum would focus on modernisation, new curation, digital presentation, museum explainers for history learning, specialised training in conservation work, expansion of facilities for visitors with special needs, research and inclusion of museum visits in school education programmes.

The museum will also reach educational institutions across different parts of the country through various mobile programmes and exhibitions, he said.

Tanzim Wahab has also been serving as the additional director general of the newly established July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum since its inception. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated the museum for general visitors on 5 August 2026.
