Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched ward-based emergency response teams and set up a central control room to address potential waterlogging issues caused by the currently ongoing rainfall.
The initiative aims to manage waterlogging in its areas and ensure a swift response to flood-related challenges.
The announcement was made in a press release issued by DSCC on Wednesday.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecasted that a low-pressure system over the Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent regions is causing cloudy skies and light rainfall in Dhaka and surrounding areas, with Dhaka and nearby areas having recorded 45 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
However, winds from the southeast/south direction are expected to reach speeds of 10-15 km/h and this rainfall may continue for the next several days.
In response to the weather conditions, Dhaka South’s Waste Management Department has been working relentlessly to prevent waterlogging across its jurisdiction, the press release stated.
In addition, ward-based emergency response teams have been established to ensure timely interventions in case of any waterlogging incidents.
DSCC has also urged citizens to report any temporary waterlogging issues within their wards to the central control room by calling 01709900888.
