Five films have been submitted to the Bangladesh Oscar Committee for consideration in the International Feature Film category of the 99th Academy Awards.
The filmmakers and producers submitted the films within the stipulated deadline. The entries are Redoan Rony’s ‘Domm’, Mezbaur Rahman Sumon’s ‘Roid’, Monirul Akash Haque’s ‘The University of Chankharpul’, Mohammad Touqir Islam’s ‘Delupi’ and Nurul Alam Atique’s ‘Manusher Bagan’.
A seven-member Bangladesh Oscar Committee has been formed to review and select the country’s official submission. Dr Zahirul Islam Kachi, president of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies (BFFS), is serving as the committee’s chairperson.
The committee has already received formal approval from the Academy. Its members will watch and assess the submitted films according to the prescribed guidelines and evaluation process.
Following discussions and a joint review, the committee will select one film to represent Bangladesh at the Oscars.
The name of the selected film will be officially announced on 27 September after the selection process is completed.
The Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies is providing overall support to the Bangladesh Oscar Committee throughout the process.
