Bangladesh is now experiencing contrasting weather, with heavy rainfall drenching eastern and coastal districts while a mild heatwave continues across parts of the west and centre.
The monsoon is weak over the country but moderate over the North Bay, with its trough stretching across central regions, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said Thursday.
Rangamati recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours at 65mm, followed by Sitakunda (54mm), Kutubdia (34mm), Feni (28mm), Chandpur (31mm) and Madaripur (27mm), BSS reports.
Meanwhile, Jashore recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.4°C, with Koyra at 36.2°C. Dhaka, Faridpur, Bogura and Rangpur each registered 36.0°C.
On the other hand, a mild heatwave is sweeping Dhaka, Faridpur, Rangpur, Jashore and Khulna but is expected to ease soon.
The Met office forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds in many areas of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram. Rainfall is also expected in varying degrees across divisions between 18-21 September.
Day and night temperatures may dip slightly today, with minor fluctuations expected over the next four days.
Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir said a low‑pressure area is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining Eastcentral Bay by 19 September and may intensify.
Srimangal recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 22.5°C.
In Dhaka, humidity stood at 86 per cent at 6am, with winds from the south or southeast at 10–15 km/h.
