Department of Mass Communication Director General (DG) SM Abdur Rahman has said the Government Performance Management System (GPMS) will further accelerate the government’s people-oriented publicity activities, or mass communications.
Through implementing this new evaluation system of government work, it is possible to improve the quality of public services while ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance of departments, the DG observed.
Abdur Rahman said this while speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop on informing about the GPMS work plan. The workshop was organised by Kaptai Information Office at the conference room of the Horticulture Department in Boroichhari on Saturday, said a press release.
Abdur Rahman said the Department of Mass Communication’s GPMS includes not just how many courtyard meetings, community meetings, film screenings or public dialogues were held for publicity, but how many people received the development message, how much the public accepted the message, and its results.
The DG further told workshop participants that under GPMS, three-year work plans are prepared, enabling government institutions to conduct more planned and results-based activities.
Department of Mass Communication Director Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin presided over the workshop. Deputy Director (Field Publicity) Fahima Jahan presented the main paper while Mymensingh Information Office Director Mir Akram Uddin discussed it.
Officers from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions and the head office of the Department of Mass Communication received hands-on training in preparing GPMS work plans, implementation, progress evaluation and according to prescribed guidelines during the two-day workshop.
