A humanitarian initiative has provided emergency assistance to 5,700 flood- and landslide-affected families in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachari, benefiting an estimated 28,500 people as communities continue recovering from weeks of flooding and landslides.
The emergency aid programme was initiated by Kazuko Bhuiyan Welfare Trust and implemented by Multi Serve International (MSI) with support from JT International Bangladesh Limited, according to a press release issued on 7 September 2026.
The programme covered some of the worst-hit areas, including Banshkhali in Chattogram, Pekua in Cox’s Bazar and Dighinala in Khagrachari, where many families are still struggling with damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods and limited access to essential resources.
Priority was given to female-headed households, elderly people, persons with disabilities and displaced residents. Each family received a package containing essential food items, including rice, lentils, soybean oil, potatoes and salt, to support immediate nutritional needs during the recovery period.
Distribution activities were carried out in coordination with local authorities, community leaders and volunteers to ensure timely delivery of assistance across the three districts, the press release said.
The events were attended by Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan, Member of Parliament for Khagrachari-298, in Khagrachari; Israfil Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Director and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), in Chattogram; and Safwanul Karim, Press Secretary to the Home Minister and Member of Parliament for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua), in Cox’s Bazar.
Representatives including Masudur Rahman, Manager of Kazuko Bhuiyan Welfare Trust; Gintautas Dirgela, Corporate Affairs & Communications Director of JT International Bangladesh Limited; and Md Zubair, General Secretary and CEO of MSI, joined local government officials, community leaders and volunteers during the distribution activities.
The initiative highlights the role of coordinated humanitarian action in supporting communities beyond the immediate aftermath of disasters, the press release said.
