Kane Parsons is set to return as director for Backrooms 2, the sequel to A24’s successful horror film Backrooms, according to a report from Dread Central. reports News 18.
Parsons has officially signed on to direct the sequel, with sources telling the outlet that an announcement from A24 is expected soon.
The news comes after Backrooms became a major box-office success. The film, which Parsons directed as his feature debut, has reportedly earned around $394 million worldwide.
Parsons first built the Backrooms universe through his viral YouTube videos under the name Kane Pixels. He began releasing the series in 2022 and developed the internet horror phenomenon into a feature film with A24.
The first film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell. It follows a therapist who enters a mysterious alternate dimension while searching for her missing patient.
The original film became one of A24’s biggest successes. Its reported $394 million global haul marked a remarkable result for a production made on a budget of less than $10 million.
