Police have recovered the bodies of two young women from separate residences in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area.
The deceased have been identified as Mithila Akter Nila, 18, and Laboni Begum, 20. Their bodies were recovered on Friday night and sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examinations. Following the autopsies, the bodies were handed over to their respective families on Saturday noon.
Mithila Akter Nila was married to Shakil Hossain, who is from Savar, Dhaka. The couple resided in a rented ground-floor flat in Alokito Goli at Jhaulahati Chowrasta in Kamrangirchar.
According to the inquest report prepared by Kamrangirchar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Brojo Kishor Paul, Nila died by hanging herself from a ceiling fan using a scarf (orna) at around 9:30pm on Friday, reportedly due to a family dispute.
Following notification, the police retrieved her body from the flat at approximately 2:30 am. SI Paul added that a detailed investigation into the matter is underway.
In the second incident, Laboni Begum was the daughter of Md Anwar Hossain Babul, from Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur. Her husband, Dipu Islam, is an expatriate residing in Malaysia. The couple has a three-year-old son. Laboni had been living at her father’s residence in Panwala Goli, adjacent to the Borogram Boro Masjid in Kamrangirchar.
SI Md Idris, who prepared the inquest report for the second case, noted that Laboni had an altercation over the mobile phone with her husband on Friday evening. Subsequently, she locked herself inside her brother’s room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan with a scarf (orna). Upon receiving the news, police recovered her body from the room at around 10:30pm on Friday.
