A schoolboy was killed and two others were seriously injured after a motorcycle crashed into a roadside railing in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Al Rafi, 14, a Class X student. The two injured passengers were also madrasa students.
The accident occurred around 8:30pm on the road in front of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum Complex in Tungipara.
Al Rafi had come to visit his aunt’s house in Gimadanga village of Tungipara from Homna in Cumilla. His father’s name is Al Amin.
Police and local sources said three people were travelling on the motorcycle when the rider lost control of the vehicle. It then hit a roadside railing with a heavy impact, leaving all three passengers seriously injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tungipara Police Station Md Ayub Ali said the injured were initially taken to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex. Later, they were shifted to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Al Rafi dead.
The two other injured madrasa students were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
