A Dhaka court on Monday placed former law minister Anisul Huq on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Arms Act with Banani Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minahajul Islam granted the remand after police sought a five-day custodial interrogation of Huq in connection with the case.

According to case documents, the government had issued a circular on 25 August 2024 suspending all arms licenses granted between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024. The circular directed licence holders to deposit their firearms and ammunition with the nearest police station by 3 September 2024.

It warned that any firearms or ammunition not deposited within the stipulated time would be deemed illegal, and legal action would follow.

Police filed the arms case against Anisul Huq on 24 May 2025 after failing to trace any firearms registered to him as per the government circular. The case statement noted that no weapons were recovered from the address listed on Huq’s licence.

Huq was arrested on 13 August 2024 in the Sadarghat area while allegedly attempting to flee the capital by river, accompanied by Salman F Rahman.

He has already been shown arrested and placed on different terms of remand in separate cases tied to alleged crimes during the July–August mass uprising.
