A python measuring 8–10 feet and weighing an estimated 25–30 kilogrammes has been rescued from a poultry coop in Nildumur under Shyamnagar of Satkhira.
The Forest Department and Community Patrolling Group (CPG) jointly rescued the snake after it strayed from the nearby Sundarbans into the settlement Tuesday night in search of food.
Locals said the python took shelter in a coop owned by Muktar Gazi, son of Atiar Rahman Gazi, and devoured six ducks and chickens.
When Muktar discovered the snake, he alerted the Forest Department and local CPG members.
The teams later captured the python and released it in a safe forest area near Kalagachia inside the Sundarbans.
Erfan Uddin, station officer of Burigoalini Forest Station, confirmed the incident and urged residents not to panic and to inform the Forest Department immediately.
