Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid began their home LaLiga campaign with a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Mbappe gave Madrid the lead shortly before half-time after collecting Federico Valverde’s pass. The France forward cut inside a defender before firing into the top corner in the 40th minute.
Real Sociedad responded quickly. Luka Sucic pounced four minutes later after Madrid failed to clear a loose ball, leaving the teams level at the break.
Jose Mourinho introduced Marc Cucurella at half-time as Madrid increased the pressure after the restart.
Mbappe restored the hosts’ advantage in the 60th minute. He exchanged passes with Jude Bellingham before beating goalkeeper Alex Remiro from close range.
Bellingham created the third goal through his pressing in the 68th minute. The England midfielder won possession before crossing for Vinicius Jr to tap into an unguarded net.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick 12 minutes from time.
Vinicius released him with a perfectly weighted through ball, and Mbappe lifted a composed finish over Remiro to seal Madrid’s second-half surge.
The three goals also underlined Mbappe’s importance to Mourinho’s attack as Madrid turned a level half-time score into a comfortable victory.
Real Sociedad struggled to contain Madrid after the break, while Bellingham’s energy helped the hosts regain possession high up the pitch.
Vinicius also played a key role after contributing a goal and an assist in the second half.
