The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad observed July Mass Uprising Day 2026 on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Chancery complex.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, hoisting the national flag to the tune of the national anthem, reads a press release.
The ceremony was attended by officials and employees of the High Commission, their family members, members of the Bangladeshi community, and Pakistani citizens.
A discussion meeting was held at the High Commission’s conference room, beginning with a recitation from the Holy Quran. This was followed by a one-minute silence observed in memory of the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising.
During the event, the messages from the president, prime minister, foreign minister, and minister of state for foreign affairs were read out, and a documentary focused on the July Mass Uprising was screened.
The high commissioner addressed the gathering, describing 5 August as a day of glory and victory for freedom-loving and pro-democracy people, marking the restoration of democratic political rights.
He emphasised the importance of institutionally consolidating democracy and urged everyone to work collectively to transform all state institutions into non-discriminatory entities.
Other speakers at the discussion included Hina Mansab Khan, Chairperson of the SAARC Chambers Women Entrepreneurs Council, and Ambassador Salahuddin Chowdhury, alongside High Commission officials.
The discussants highlighted the pivotal role of students and the public in the “July revival”.
They said sincere efforts must be made to repay the debt to the martyrs by building a self-reliant, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh through the establishment of social justice and the ensuring of political and economic empowerment for the people.
The programme concluded with special prayers and Munajat for the salvation of the souls of the students and citizens martyred in the 2024 uprising, as well as for the continued peace and prosperity of the nation.
