A man was killed and at least 15 others were injured during a clash between the residents of two villages over the naming of a market in Bhairab Upazila of Kishoreganj on Monday morning

The deceased was identified as Masud Mia, 30.

The incident took place around 8am between the residents of Akbarnagar and Mirarchar villages under the Kalikaprasad union.

According to locals, the violence stemmed from a nearly 30 year dispute over the naming of a market located on  both sides of the two villages along the Bhairab–Kishoreganj regional road.

Several of the injured have been admitted to the Bhairab Upazila Health Complex, while others are receiving medical attention at various private clinics.

The clash disrupted traffic on the Bhairab–Kishoreganj regional road. Police, along with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and intelligence agencies, were deployed to restore order.

Bhairab Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) K M Mamunur Rashid confirmed the incident and said law enforcement agencies are working to bring the situation under control.
