The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations against five more officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) over allegations of corruption and irregularities.
The ACC’s public relations department confirmed the move on Tuesday.
The officials under investigation are Additional Commissioner Abdul Rashid Mia, NBR Member Lutful Azim, former Additional Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Tax Commissioner Mohammad Shihabul Islam, and Joint Commissioner Md. Tarek Hasan.
This comes just days after the ACC, on June 29, initiated separate investigations against six other NBR officials, most of whom are linked to the NBR Reform Unity Council—a group formed within the revenue board advocating administrative reforms.
Three of the five officials named in the latest round of investigations are also reported to be members of the council.
The NBR Reform Unity Council recently led a week-long protest involving NBR officials and employees, demanding various reforms within the institution.
