Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Sunday expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, describing him as a distinguished parliamentarian and an eminent legal expert.
Sircar died at a hospital in the capital on Sunday at the age of 95.
In a condolence message, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
Paying tribute to the former Speaker, he said Sircar’s contributions to Bangladesh’s parliamentary democracy, legal profession and public service would be remembered with respect.
Jamir Uddin Sircar served as the Speaker of the Eighth Jatiya Sangsad from October 28, 2001, to January 25, 2009.
