Three constables of Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) have been suspended for allegedly embezzling Tk18.6 lakh by creating fake bills through an official digital financial management platform.
The suspension order, signed by BMP Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Md Abdul Hannan, was issued on Monday following a preliminary investigation into the alleged financial irregularities.
The suspended personnel are Md Maruf Hasan, a computer operator at the accounts section; Joydeb Kumar Majumder, who was assigned to the non-gazetted travel expense bill section; and Md Sajib Mia, posted at the Metro Court.
BMP Commissioner Ashik Sayeed confirmed the suspension on Wednesday, saying the action was taken to ensure a fair investigation into the allegations.
According to the departmental order, the three constables allegedly manipulated the Finance Division’s Central Digital Financial Management System during the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Using the user ID of the BMP’s Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) without authorisation, they allegedly generated a fake bill amounting to Tk18,60,984.
The investigation found that the money was transferred to a Community Bank account belonging to Constable Sajib Mia, after which the accused allegedly shared and misappropriated the funds.
“They have been suspended based on the preliminary allegations. If the charges are proven in the final investigation, further departmental and legal action will be taken,” said DC Md Abdul Hannan.
The three constables were suspended under Rule 839 of the Police Regulations Bengal (PRB), 1943. During the suspension period, they will remain attached to the BMP police lines and receive subsistence allowance according to government rules.
