The government has reduced the price of furnace oil used in electricity generation by Tk 4.44 per litre, a move expected to slightly ease power generation costs.
In a notification issued on Tuesday, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the revised price of furnace oil.
Under the new adjustment, the price has been set at Tk109.10 per litre, down from the previous rate of Tk113.54.
The revised price will take effect from 1 July.
The decision comes at a time when parts of the country, particularly rural areas, are experiencing persistent load-shedding amid soaring temperatures and increased electricity demand.
Officials said the reduction in furnace oil prices is likely to lower generation costs for furnace oil-based power plants, offering some relief to the power sector.
According to the BERC notification, the latest price adjustment for July 2026 was determined based on changes in the May-June crude oil free-on-board (FOB) price and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate.
