Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal said that if a fresh election is held in the Chattogram‑4 constituency, BNP’s Aslam Chowdhury will be able to take part.

He made the comment at a press briefing on Tuesday following the Appellate Division’s verdict on Aslam Chowdhury’s candidacy.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court cancelled Aslam’s candidacy on grounds of loan default, ruling that he cannot take oath as a Member of Parliament.

The judgment was delivered by a bench led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.

Before the 13th national election, allegations of loan default were raised against Aslam. On the final day of appeals, the Election Commission declared his nomination valid. That decision was later challenged in a writ petition, and the High Court upheld his candidacy.

However, Jamaat‑e‑Islami candidate Anwar Siddiqui filed a leave‑to‑appeal against the High Court order, citing Aslam’s loan default.
