A Dhaka court has deferred until 1 September the charge‑framing hearing in a corruption case against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, niece of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and former RAJUK assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court‑5 set the new date after hearing on Sunday.
Anti‑Corruption Commission Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed the development, saying the hearing was scheduled for Sunday but Mosharraf, who is on bail, sought time. The court granted the plea and rescheduled the date.
Earlier, on 8 April, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz transferred the case to Special Judge’s Court‑5 after it was deemed ready for trial.
On 18 February, the court accepted the charge sheet against Tulip and Mosharraf and issued arrest warrants.
The ACC filed the case on 15 April last year against Rizwana Siddiq, former RAJUK assistant legal adviser Shah Md Khusruzzaman, and Mosharraf, accusing them of illegally occupying a flat in Gulshan‑2 belonging to Eastern Housing Ltd without payment and later registering it.
The flat in question is B/201, House No. 5A and 5B (old), now 113, 11B (new), Road No. 71, Gulshan‑2. The charge alleges the accused colluded to abuse power and secure the property unlawfully.
Following the case, accused Khusruzzaman filed a writ petition in July this year. The High Court stayed his investigation for three months. The ACC later received a “no order” from the chamber court.
On 11 December, after investigation, the ACC submitted charges under Penal Code sections 161, 165(A), 467, 468, 471, 109 and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 against Tulip and Sardar Mosharraf.
