Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) on Saturday organised a seminar to showcase its homegrown agricultural technologies under the slogan, “Research, Innovation, Development and Prosperity,” with the aim of bridging the gap between research and farmers and accelerating sustainable agricultural development.
The seminar, titled “Introducing GAU’s Innovative Agricultural Technologies,” was organised by the university’s Outreach Centre at the International Complex, reads a press release.
Vice-Chancellor GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest, while Treasurer Md Safiul Islam Afrad and Director (Research) Md Moshiul Islam were present as special guests.
The session was chaired by Farhana Yeasmin, director of the Outreach Centre, who also presented the keynote paper.
Agriculture, livestock and fisheries officials from Gazipur Sadar and Sreepur, along with 40 farmers, livestock producers and rural entrepreneurs from Badnibhanga and Pajulia villages, participated in the seminar.
In her keynote presentation, Farhana highlighted the university’s research-driven innovations, including improved crop varieties, modern production techniques, farm mechanisation and climate-resilient agricultural technologies. She said these innovations could reduce production costs, increase crop yields and improve farmers’ incomes through wider field-level adoption.
Safiul outlined the university’s contributions to both fundamental and applied agricultural research, as well as the dissemination of research-based technologies.
Addressing the seminar, VC Mustafizur said research achieves its true value only when it reaches farmers’ fields and improves productivity, lowers costs and enhances livelihoods.
