The government has revised the salary structure for Assistant Private Secretaries (APS) working with ministers, state ministers and officials holding equivalent positions.

In a letter sent to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, the Finance Division said APSs recruited from outside the permanent civil service will now have their basic salary fixed at Tk32,540.

The amount corresponds to the eighth step of the ninth grade. The same pay scale will also apply to Private Secretaries (PS) appointed by deputy ministers and officials of similar rank.

Previously, these posts generally started at the first step of the ninth grade with a basic salary of Tk22,000, although some officials received higher pay through additional increments.

The decision came after the Ministry of Public Administration sought clarification from the Finance Division on 31 March.

Under the new rule, the basic salary of Tk32,540 will remain fixed. Appointees will not receive annual increments.

They will be eligible for standard allowances. However, the Finance Division clarified that they will not receive pension, gratuity or provident fund benefits.

The revised pay structure will apply only to officials recruited from outside the government service.

If a minister or state minister appoints a career civil servant as APS, that official will not fall under this newly defined pay grade.
