Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman has held a meeting with the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The meeting took place on Friday night at a city hotel, where a high-level delegation led by Shafiqur Rahman discussed the expansion of Bangladesh-Turkey relations, the resolution of the Rohingya crisis, and increased cooperation on various regional and global issues.
Both sides emphasised the necessity of further strengthening the historical and friendly ties between the two nations.
During the discussion, particular importance was placed on cultural exchange, education, scientific research, and the expansion of trade, economic, and technological partnerships.
The leaders also exchanged views on maintaining regional peace and stability, addressing global crises, and mutual geopolitical interests. Both parties expressed their optimism that the relationship between Bangladesh and Turkey would be elevated to a higher level in the future.
Shafiqur expressed his gratitude for the continuous support and cooperation provided by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government regarding the Rohingya issue.
He further called upon Turkey to play a more effective role in the international arena to ensure a permanent and sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an honorary letter of greetings addressed to President Erdoğan was handed over to the Foreign Minister on behalf of the Opposition Leader. The Turkish delegation was also congratulated and thanked for their visit to Bangladesh.
The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat, Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher; Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar; Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan; Central Executive Council members Nurul Islam Bulbul and Md Selim Uddin; and Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Jamaat Ameer.
