Intern doctors at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday formed a human chain to press home their six-point demand, including the withdrawal of a controversial FCPS training notice issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The demonstration, organised under the banner of the Intern Doctors Association 2025–26, took place in front of the hospital’s main gate around 11:30am and brought together a large number of intern physicians.
Protesters also submitted a memorandum through the hospital director to the relevant authorities, pressing for the withdrawal of the notice and the implementation of their six-point demand charter.
Addressing the gathering, speakers alleged that the recently issued FCPS training notice was detrimental to the professional interests of doctors and failed to reflect the realities of medical training in the country. They urged the government to immediately revoke the notice and take steps to address their demands.
The association set a deadline until Friday night for the authorities to respond, warning of intensified agitation if no satisfactory action is taken.
“We expect the government to take prompt measures to resolve the issue. Otherwise, tougher programmes will be announced from Saturday,” said Sakib Hossain, president of the Intern Doctors Association 2025–26.
He said intern doctors across the country could join the movement in coordination with the association, adding that an indefinite work stoppage and academic shutdown remain under consideration if their demands are not met.
The protesting doctors called on the authorities to engage in dialogue and take immediate action to prevent disruption to healthcare services and medical education.
