The ICC has clarified the purpose of its recent visit to Bangladesh and said reports linking the trip to specific issues are only speculation.
In an official statement on Wednesday, the International Cricket Council said its two member delegation visited Bangladesh to meet stakeholders and review developments related to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The delegation included ICC Board directors Mohammed A.S. Moosajee of South Africa and Tavengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe. They met different parties during their visit and gathered information on governance and electoral matters.
The statement came after several reports and social media discussions tried to explain the reason behind the delegation’s trip. The visit had sparked debate in the country’s cricket community over the past few days.
The ICC said the delegation will submit its findings and observations to the ICC Board in due course. It also made clear that the two representatives will not make any public comments on the matter.
The world governing body urged people not to treat media reports or public claims as its official position.
“Any media reports, commentary or claims regarding the visit are therefore speculative and do not represent the ICC’s position,” the statement said.
The clarification is likely to ease uncertainty surrounding the visit as discussions continue over governance and election related matters within the BCB.
