PM orders ‘roadshows’ to revive closed state-owned factories

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed relevant authorities to organise ‘roadshows’ to attract domestic and foreign investment to the country’s closed and loss-making state-owned factories.

He also instructed officials to complete all necessary preparations by the end of this month.

The directives were issued on Thursday during a meeting regarding the reopening of closed factories, held at Cabinet Division’s meeting room in Secretariat with prime minister in chair.

Briefing the media after the session, Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said the government will soon organise these roadshows to attract investment and revitalise industrial units currently under the Ministry of Industries.

During the meeting, senior officials from Ministry of Industries presented detailed reports regarding the status, underlying problems, future potential, and necessary measures for these factories.

Tarique instructed officials to identify effective methods for the swift reopening of closed factories and to transform loss-making units into profitable enterprises.

He placed particular emphasis on the importance of securing both domestic and foreign investment for these industrial units.

The meeting was also informed that recommendations from an expert committee are being utilised to facilitate the reopening and recovery of these factories.

The meeting was attended by Commerce and Industry Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Ashik Chowdhury, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, and Industry Secretary Obaidur Rahman, along with other high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Industries.
