The measles situation in the country is becoming increasingly alarming. In the past 24 hours (from 8am Friday to 8am Saturday), eight more people have died with measles symptoms.
Since 15 March, the total number of deaths from measles and related symptoms has risen to 583. Of these, 493 are suspected cases and 90 are confirmed measles deaths.
In the same period, 1,033 new suspected measles patients were identified nationwide, along with 53 newly confirmed cases.
From 15 March to date, the total number of suspected measles patients across the country has reached 69,612. Laboratory‑confirmed cases stand at 8,996.
During this time, 55,705 patients have been hospitalised with measles, while 52,050 have recovered and been discharged.
The latest health bulletin released Saturday by the Directorate General of Health Services’ Integrated Control Center and Health Emergency Operation Center provided these figures.
According to the bulletin, of the eight deaths reported in the past 24 hours, three occurred in Dhaka division, two in Sylhet division, and two in Mymensingh division. District‑wise data show two deaths each in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh districts.
Division‑wise, Dhaka continues to record the highest number of cases. Since March 15, Dhaka division has reported 32,908 suspected measles patients, followed by Chattogram with 11,287 and Rajshahi with 6,280.
Other divisions reported 6,219 cases in Barishal; 5,182 cases in Khulna; 3,473 cases in Sylhet; 2,923 cases in Mymensingh; and 1,340 cases in Rangpur.
In the past 24 hours, Dhaka division again topped new infections with 501 suspected patients, followed by Chattogram (192), Barishal (130), Khulna (74), Mymensingh (50), Sylhet (41), Rajshahi (33), and Rangpur (12). Hospital admissions were also highest in Dhaka (359) and Chattogram (200).
