The measles outbreak in the country remains alarming, with 10 more children dying from measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, according to a report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.
The deaths occurred between 8:00am Monday and 8:00am Tuesday. During this period, 1,136 children were infected with measles or its symptoms, the report said.
According to the DGHS, nine children died with measles-like symptoms and one child died from confirmed measles in the last 24 hours.
Since March 15, a total of 467 children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country, while another 88 have died from confirmed measles — bringing the combined death toll to 555.
In the last 24 hours, 53 children were confirmed infected with measles, while 1,083 patients showed measles-like symptoms. A total of 945 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 1,181 were discharged.
Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles patients has reached 66,023, with 8,772 confirmed cases. Of these, 52,530 patients have been hospitalised, and 48,800 have been discharged and returned home.
