An FIR has been filed at Gariahat Police Station in Kolkata against actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee over allegations related to incitement during the 2021 West Bengal post-poll violence, following a complaint lodged by lawyer Jaydeep Sen.

According to the complaint, Parambrata Chatterjee had made a Facebook post on May 2, 2021, the day the West Bengal Assembly election results were declared. Written in Bangla, the post reportedly stated, “Let today be declared World Mischief Day.” Swastika Mukherjee allegedly responded to the post with the comment, “Let it be, let it be.”

The FIR claims that shortly after the post, incidents of violence erupted, including the killing of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar in Beliaghata. The complaint further alleges that the post and subsequent reactions contributed to a broader pattern of post-poll violence and attacks during that period.

The complainant has argued that the social media activity encouraged or coincided with incidents of violence that followed the election results. However, no official response has been issued by either Parambrata Chatterjee or Swastika Mukherjee at the time of filing this report.

In a separate development related to the same broader post-poll violence context, Trinamool Congress MLA Javed Khan surrendered before the Alipore Court in connection with a case linked to violence in the Tiljala area during the 2021 elections. Reports indicate that 10 co-accused have already been granted bail, while Khan had not appeared before the court earlier despite being named in the case.
