Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) hosted a musical evening titled “Poromporar Gane Dujone,” celebrating the enduring legacy of two of Bengal’s greatest cultural icons, Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The event, held on Wednesday at the Auditorium of Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi, brought together music enthusiasts, cultural practitioners and members of the wider community for an evening devoted to Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti.
The programme highlighted the poetic depth, emotional intensity and philosophical richness of the musical traditions shaped by Tagore and Nazrul, whose works continue to define Bengal’s cultural identity across generations.
The evening featured performances by classical singer Manzurul Islam Khan, who holds a Master of Music from Mumbai University, and noted vocalist Sanchita Rakhi, a postgraduate of Rabindra Bharati University. Their renditions were marked by technical finesse and interpretative sensitivity, drawing audiences into a reflective atmosphere steeped in nostalgia and cultural memory.
Through a curated selection of timeless compositions, the artists revived familiar works with renewed expression, underscoring the continued relevance of Tagore and Nazrul in contemporary artistic practice.
The programme also reflected Alliance Française de Dhaka’s ongoing commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue and supporting platforms that promote South Asian classical and semi-classical traditions.
The event was organised in collaboration with Sub Continental Classical Music, AB Bank and Anondobhubon.
