Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday urged Pakistan to intensify its mediation efforts and help address issues surrounding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a phone conversation with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, reports Xinhua.

During the call, Dar briefed Wang on Pakistan’s recent mediation initiatives aimed at facilitating talks between Iran and the United States. He also thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and expressed hope for stronger coordination with Beijing to play a constructive role in maintaining regional peace and stability.

“China will continue to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts and make its own contribution toward this end,” Wang said.

He added China and Pakistan will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in the coming days.
Wang said both countries should jointly organise commemorative events, maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication, deepen their ironclad friendship, and expand practical cooperation.

He also stressed the need to safeguard each other’s core interests and shared priorities while advancing the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Wang further said that amid growing global uncertainty and instability, both countries should uphold the just positions of China and Pakistan on multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, and work together to defend multilateralism.

For his part, Dar said Pakistan is ready to use the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to deepen comprehensive cooperation with China, enhance multilateral coordination, and pursue fresh progress in the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
