Sunrisers Hyderabad crashed to their lowest total in IPL history after Gujarat Titans bowled them out for 86 and sealed an 82-run win in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Hyderabad, owners of the four highest team totals in IPL history, failed to chase 169 and folded in 14.5 overs.
Gujarat posted 168 for five after a shaky start. Captain Shubman Gill fell for five and Jos Buttler managed only seven as Gujarat slipped to 26 for two.
Sai Sudharsan rebuilt the innings with 61, while Washington Sundar added 50 in a 60-run stand that steadied the side on a difficult surface. Nishant Sindhu chipped in with 22 from 14 balls. Hyderabad bowlers Zeeshan Ansari and Sakib Hussain claimed two wickets each.
Gill later said Ahmedabad did not offer an easy batting pitch, and Gujarat’s bowlers proved that point quickly.
Travis Head fell without scoring and Abhishek Sharma followed for six in the next over. Hyderabad never recovered. Wickets fell regularly as Gujarat’s seamers attacked hard lengths and forced errors across the line.
Captain Pat Cummins top-scored with 19 from nine balls at number eight. No recognised batter reached 20. The innings became Hyderabad’s first total below 90 in franchise history.
Their previous lowest IPL score stood at 96 against Mumbai Indians in 2019. The defeat also marked Hyderabad’s heaviest loss by runs in the competition, surpassing the 80-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this season.
Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder led Gujarat’s attack with three wickets each. Gujarat also recorded the biggest victory margin in the franchise’s IPL history.
