National University (NU) on Thursday inaugurated its regional centre in Faridpur as part of efforts to decentralise administrative and academic services for affiliated colleges and reduce operational delays across its network.
The centre was opened at its new campus in Faridpur by State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Faridpur-2 Member of Parliament Shama Obaed Islam, Faridpur-3 Member of Parliament Nayab Yusuf and National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah, who jointly inaugurated the facility by releasing balloons and pigeons, said a press release.
A guard of honour was presented to the chief guest and the chair of the programme, while the national flag was hoisted alongside the national anthem during the inauguration ceremony.
A discussion session was later held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
National University Regional Centre Coordination Office Director Md Aminul Akter delivered the welcome speech at the event chaired by National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah.
Faridpur-4 Member of Parliament Md Shahidul Islam Babul and National University Treasurer Professor ATM Zafrul Azam also addressed the programme.
In her speech, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said the government had prioritised education in its election manifesto before assuming office and remained committed to expanding access to education nationwide.
In his remarks, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah said the university was working to transform itself into a modern, technology-driven and session-jam-free institution.
He said the addition of the Faridpur regional centre would help simplify administrative and academic activities for affiliated colleges.
Government Rajendra College Bangla Department Associate Professor Md Shahinur Islam conducted the programme.
Among others present were Government Rajendra College Principal, Faridpur Superintendent of Police, Faridpur district BNP Member Secretary AKM Kibria Swapan, Convener Advocate Syed Modarres Ali Isha, senior National University officials, principals of different colleges and other distinguished guests.
