Bengal Commercial Bank PLC inaugurated its 34th branch in Sylhet on Tuesday, accelerating its expansion drive as banks compete to widen their reach in key remittance and small business markets.
Bengal Commercial Bank Chairman Md Jashim Uddin inaugurated the branch at Manru Shopping City in Chouhatta, Sylhet, the bank said in a press release.
NRB Bank Founder and Chairman Iqbal Ahmed, Bengal Commercial Bank Vice Chairman Engr Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir and the bank’s Director Md Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury attended the programme as special guests.
Bengal Commercial Bank Managing Director Tarik Morshed presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Bengal Commercial Bank Chairman Md Jashim Uddin reiterated the lender’s focus on becoming a small and medium enterprise (SME)-friendly bank and praised remittance earners for their contribution to the economy.
Bengal Commercial Bank Managing Director Tarik Morshed said the bank is focusing on bringing unbanked people under formal financial services while expanding customer access to modern banking facilities.
NRB Bank Founder and Chairman Iqbal Ahmed said Bengal Commercial Bank has maintained steady growth and customer confidence despite challenges in the banking sector.
The bank said the expansion is part of its strategy to strengthen modern banking services and deepen access to financial services outside major urban centres.
The lender plans to open additional branches in Fatikchhari in Chattogram and Baligaon in Munshiganj later this month as part of its nationwide expansion strategy.
Bengal Commercial Bank Deputy Managing Director and Company Secretary Md Humayun Kabir, alongside senior officials, clients and local businesspeople, were also present.
