A 15-year-old boy, Ramzan Ali, died after falling from the roof of a building in the Dhalpur area of Jatrabari in Dhaka around 8pm on Friday.
He was reportedly playing on the rooftop when he fell, and an iron rod pierced the back of his left thigh.
He was first taken to a local Islami Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 9:30pm.
According to his sister Khushi Akter, the family is from Rongkhola village in Chandina upazila of Cumilla. They currently live as tenants on the third floor of the building in Dhalpur.
Confirming the death, Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
