At least two students were injured in a clash between two groups of students at a dormitory of Mymensingh Medical College left, while one person has been taken into police custody for questioning.
The incident occurred around 9pm on Friday, reportedly following a dispute triggered by a Facebook post. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, an initial altercation broke out between students Mir Hamidur and Md Muaj, which later escalated into a physical fight.
As the confrontation intensified, supporters of both sides joined in, turning the situation into a wider clash inside the Baghmara hostel premises.
Police from Kotwali Model Police Station quickly responded and brought the situation under control. However, tension persisted in the area until around 1:30am, after which the situation normalised.
The injured students, Mir Hamidur and Md Muaj, were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. One of them, reported to be in critical condition, was later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Zubair Ahmed, in-charge of the hospital police camp, said one of the injured was in serious condition and had been shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shibirul Islam said the situation is now under control, with additional police deployed in the area to prevent further unrest. He also confirmed that a man named Nafiul Islam has been taken into custody for questioning, and legal proceedings are underway.
