At least 20 people were injured in violent clashes, arson, and vandalism broke out between two rival groups in Saltha upazila of Faridpur on Friday evening.

The violence, which lasted until late night, originated from a trivial scuffle in the Madrasa Gotti area before spreading to neighbouring villages including Chhoto Balia, Goalpara, and Bhabukdia.

Supporters of rival leaders Jahid Matubbor and Nuru Matubbor reportedly attacked each other’s properties, resulting in the vandalism of over 10 houses and the torching of at least two homes.

A shop was also allegedly looted during the unrest, which locals attribute to long-standing disputes over land and local dominance.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahmudul Hasan confirmed that additional police forces were deployed to bring the situation under control.

While the area remains tense, the situation is being closely monitored as authorities work to identify those involved.
