The armed forces are not the property of any individual or political party, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said on Sunday.

He also said, “We want an armed force that earns the trust of the people and commands respect from external powers.”

The premier made the remarks while addressing officers and members of the armed forces.

The event was held at the Sena Prangan auditorium in Dhaka Cantonment, attended by the PM’s Defense Adviser Brigadier General (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam and the chiefs of the three services.

Tarique told members of the armed forces that the military is a symbol of strength and dignity for an independent state.

He also emphasised that commitment to the Constitution and the unwavering trust of the people must be the guiding principles of the armed forces, whose ultimate responsibility is to safeguard the nation’s independence and sovereignty.

Calling for uncompromising professionalism, he urged the armed forces to remain at the highest moral and ideological standards.

He added that the flame of patriotism ignited by former president Ziaur Rahman in every tier of the armed forces must never fade away.
