Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr carries a unique sense of joy in a renewed democratic environment, where citizens can exercise their rights and express themselves freely.
He made the remarks on Saturday morning after offering Eid prayers at Darus Salam Jame Mosque in Ward No. 10 of Uttar Kattali.
Speaking to reporters, the minister linked the spirit of Eid to freedom and openness. “Eid joy cannot be fully realised without a free environment. The current democratic atmosphere has ensured that people can celebrate without fear,” he said.
Khosru highlighted that people from all walks of life-regardless of religion, caste, or background-can now celebrate Eid in a more inclusive and harmonious setting.
“We envision a ‘Rainbow Bangladesh’ in the future, where there will be no discrimination among citizens,” he added.
Emphasising unity and democratic rights, the minister said, “We are celebrating this Eid together. We want this environment to continue-where people can live, speak, and move freely, and enjoy all constitutional and democratic rights.”
He expressed hope that the country is moving closer to restoring the democratic ownership that citizens have long aspired to achieve.
The BNP leader extended Eid greetings to all citizens. He was accompanied by his son, BNP leader Israfil Khasru, as well as family members and party activists.
