Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood is visiting Tokyo to attend the Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum, where regional ministers and business leaders are discussing ways to strengthen energy security across the Indo-Pacific.
The two-day forum, being held on 14–15 March, is co-hosted by the Chair and Vice Chair of the US National Energy Dominance Council, US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and Japan Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa Ryosei, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo.
Energy ministers from Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam are also participating in the meeting.
During the forum, ministers are expected to discuss ways to strengthen energy security in the Indo-Pacific region with a focus on ensuring the supply of abundant, reliable, affordable, secure and dispatchable energy.
On the sidelines of the forum, Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with ministers and delegations from participating countries including the US, Japan and Brunei.
The meetings are expected to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in the energy sector and related areas, the press release said.
The minister is also expected to meet representatives of private sector companies to discuss potential partnerships and investment opportunities involving Bangladesh’s energy sector.
