Another suspect in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi has been arrested in India.
Philip Sangma was apprehended in Nadia district of West Bengal and was formally shown arrested on Saturday, according to sources familiar with the development.
Sangma was detained by India’s Special Task Force (STF), which is expected to seek his remand for further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following confirmation of his arrest, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has formally requested consular access to Sangma, diplomatic sources said.
According to investigators, Sangma is not believed to have been directly involved in the killing but is suspected of assisting the main accused in crossing the border into India after the incident.
Earlier, the Bangladesh mission in Kolkata had also sought consular access to the prime suspect and his alleged accomplice in the same case.
Last week, India’s Special Task Force arrested Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Rahul, and Alamgir Hossain, from Bongaon in West Bengal, a district located near the Benapole land border crossing.
Investigators believe the two suspects fled Bangladesh and crossed into India shortly after the killing of Hadi. Authorities in both countries are continuing investigations into the case.
