The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) hosted an iftar gathering in Dhaka to strengthen collaboration and networking among stakeholders in the country’s information and communication technology sector.
The event was held at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday, the association said in a press release.
Labour and Employment Minister and Expatriates’ Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury attended as chief guest.
Sirajganj-5 Member of Parliament Md Amirul Islam Khan and Dinajpur-1 Member of Parliament Md Monjurul Islam joined as special guests.
Local Government Division Joint Secretary and BASIS Administrator Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan chaired the programme.
Participants included BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026 Convener AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony, Co-convener Ferdous Alam, members of the BASIS Associate Committee, representatives of member companies and leaders from the ICT industry.
“The ICT sector has emerged as an important driver of Bangladesh’s economic diversification,” said Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury.
“The industry has contributed to job creation, export growth and the expansion of the domestic technology ecosystem,” he said, adding that Bangladesh has the potential to become a global hub for software and IT services.
BASIS Administrator Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan said the association continues to work to strengthen the sector and expand its global presence.
“The global demand for Bangladesh’s ICT products and services is increasing steadily and BASIS is working to position the sector more competitively in international markets,” he said.
AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony said the Ramadan gathering created an opportunity for industry stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and networking.
Participants also exchanged views on the progress and future prospects of the ICT sector, the organisers said.
