A Malaysian national and a Filipino died on Tuesday when a helicopter crashed in a vacant lot about two hours south-east of Manila, Philippines, officials said.
The aircraft carried five people, including two Malaysians, when it went down in a grassy area of a residential district in Pililla town, Rizal province, at around 7:27am on Monday.
Rizal provincial police officer Ramjae Pangga told AFP that the crash killed two passengers — a Malaysian and a Filipino.
Pililla mayor John Masinsin said the pilot sustained critical injuries. “The three survivors are still in shock, especially the pilot,” he told AFP.
He said authorities were transferring them to a tertiary hospital in Metro Manila at the request of their families.
Masinsin praised the pilot for bringing the aircraft down in a residential area without causing further casualties. Pangga said the pilot attempted an emergency landing because the engine was about to shut down.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has launched an investigation into the crash.
