The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) has besieged the Proctor’s Office protesting the pasting of posters by the banned student wing of the ousted Awami League, Chhatra League, on Dhaka University campus and alleging administrative negligence.
They have demanded that those responsible be identified and brought under the law within 24 hours.
At around 1pm on Saturday, Ducsu leaders took position in front of the proctor’s office, chanting slogans against the banned student organisation.
Student representatives discussed the matter with Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed. The proctor stated that if they had known about the poster pasting earlier, action could have been taken. Concerned security officials have been instructed, and the identities of the duty guards will be verified to take necessary action.
He further informed that the Provost and Estate Office have been instructed to prepare a list, and the matter will be dealt with strictly.
After coming out of the proctor’s office, Ducsu Social Service Secretary AB Jubayer told journalists, “The banned organisation has not only done this last night but has also carried out provocative acts on campus various times before. They have done things like putting up pictures and banners of Sheikh Hasina and locking important university gates.”
He said, “They are getting the courage to do these things because of the administration’s negligence.”
He further stated, “We have given the proctor 24 hours to check the CCTV footage and identify those responsible.”
Addressing Chhatra League, Jubayer said, “Don’t come in the darkness of night like thieves to paste posters; if you are caught, you will be beaten like dogs,” adding that there will be no compromise with those who have shed the blood of students.
