On Tuesday morning at the Secretariat, the administrators of six city corporations formally joined as city corporation administrators before Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Secretary Mohang Shawkat Rashid Chowdhury was present at the time.
Later, the minister told journalists that political administrators have been appointed as administrators because they will work well and ensure public service better and that city elections will be held first where the term ends.
LGRD State Minister Mir Shah Alam said that, since they are connected with the people, political administrators rather than government officials will be able to work better in city corporations. Therefore, he said, political administrators have been appointed in city corporations to make the dysfunctional local governments functional.
The six administrators pledged to work to avoid public suffering, including mosquito control, traffic jams, and road repairs, with public service to be their commitment.
The new administrators will undertake 60-day programmes for quick action.
The new administrators believe they will have the opportunity to perform duties in close proximity to the people due to their involvement in politics.
