Yunus-Tarique meet concludes, press briefing held

The much talked about closed-door meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has concluded.

A joint press conference was held at around 4:00 PM Bangladesh time (11:00 AM local time in London) following the private meeting between Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman.

Present at the press conference were Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser; Khalilur Rahman, National Security Adviser; and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee.

Details of the discussions between Yunus and Tarique have not yet been fully disclosed, but the presence of top advisers and party officials suggests that the meeting addressed significant political developments concerning Bangladesh’s interim government and the ongoing political dialogue.

Further statements are expected from both parties regarding the outcomes and future steps.

Earlier the meeting between Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London, beginning at 9:00 AM local time (2:00 PM Bangladesh time) and concluded at 10:30 AM (3:30 PM Bangladesh time). Following the meeting, Tarique Rahman left the hotel premises.

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, confirmed that the discussion between the two leaders was held privately. He also stated that representatives from both sides will hold a joint press briefing to disclose the outcomes of the meeting.

Akbar Hossain, Press Minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK, had confirmed the start of the meeting.

Upon arrival at the Dorchester Hotel, Tarique Rahman was received by National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
