The first batch of the Python Programming and UI/UX Design courses under the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP) was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
The training programme is jointly organised by SICIP and BASIS, reads a press release.
The inauguration ceremony was moderated by Khaleda Begum, chief coordinator of SICIP. Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, administrator of BASIS and Joint Secretary of the Local Government Division, attended the event as the chief guest.
Md Rowshan Kamal James, member of BASIS and focal person of the SICIP-BASIS Programme, attended as the special guest, while Belal Ahmed, member of the BASIS and SICIP program standing committee (PSC), joined as the guest.
Around 60 trainees participated in the inaugural session.
In his keynote address, Abul Khair said such initiatives should not be viewed merely as free training courses. He said one of the government’s key priorities is to develop a skilled workforce, create employment opportunities and integrate unemployed youth into productive economic activities.
He added that the training programme would strengthen participants’ existing competencies and significantly enhance their employability.
He also highlighted the importance of professional certification in the ICT sector, saying certificates alone are not enough to ensure success.
True expertise, he said, is developed through continuous practice and hands-on experience.
Whether in law, medicine or information technology, practical application remains the key to professional excellence.
He encouraged participants to make the best use of their time, continuously improve their skills and leverage the internationally recognised certification offered through the programme to build successful careers.
Speaking as the special guest, Md Rowshan Kamal James said there is no alternative to developing a skilled workforce to meet the rapidly growing demand of Bangladesh’s ICT industry.
He said the SICIP-BASIS training programme would play a vital role in equipping young people with industry-oriented skills and preparing them to meet evolving market demands.
He urged trainees to complete the programme with dedication, sincerity and regular practice so they can contribute meaningfully to the country’s ICT sector.
Belal said BASIS has been a driving force behind the development of Bangladesh’s ICT industry and has been working closely with the government to advance the sector.
Congratulating the trainees, he encouraged them to remain committed and hardworking throughout the four-month programme, acquire practical skills and apply the knowledge gained to contribute to both their personal growth and the country’s development.
Under the SICIP-BASIS Programme, training initiatives have been launched in several high-demand disciplines, including Python Programming, UI/UX Design and Technical Sales Specialist.
These industry-focused training programmes are designed to equip participants with practical, job-ready skills, enhancing their competitiveness in both domestic and international job markets while supporting the continued growth of Bangladesh’s ICT industry.
