Actor Khairul Basar has spoken out against remarks made about veteran politician and freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman, MP, during a recent political gathering, expressing his disapproval in a post on social media.
The controversy stems from comments allegedly made at a public meeting of the National Citizen Party (NCP), where Fazlur Rahman was criticised.
In response, Basar said it was unacceptable to make derogatory remarks about a personality who represents the pride and identity of Kishoreganj.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account, the actor wrote that he was born in Kishoreganj and believed that if the people of the district truly valued their self-respect, “no disrespectful comedian” would have been able to visit the district and describe one of its most respected figures as “the disgrace of Kishoreganj”.
He added that public figures should exercise restraint in their remarks and said attempting to gain popularity by insulting others was unacceptable.
Describing Fazlur Rahman as the pride of Kishoreganj, a symbol of the district’s identity, a legendary figure and its present-day guardian, Basar wrote: “If all the respectable people of Kishoreganj are gone, then as a son of this soil, I register my condemnation and protest against this disrespect.”
The actor’s statement quickly drew widespread attention on social media. Many users expressed solidarity with his views, while others shared differing opinions on the issue.
The debate follows recent criticism surrounding comments made about Fazlur Rahman during an NCP public meeting.
Basar’s post has since added to the wider discussion over political discourse and respect for senior public figures.
