The main gate of the Secretariat, which was closed for security reasons amid the 11-party alliance’s march towards the government offices, was reopened after nearly an hour on Thursday.
The law enforcement agencies closed the main gate at 12:45pm on 6 August as a security measure and reopened it at 1:45pm.
Earlier, police stopped the 11-party alliance’s march towards the Secretariat as the opposition grouping protested the fuel and gas crisis, “ghost” electricity bills, worsening law and order situation and rising prices of essential commodities.
The alliance leaders held a brief sit-in in front of the Secretariat after being stopped by police. They later left the area after failing to meet any government representative.
Meanwhile, the three-tier security arrangement in front of the Secretariat and near Osmani Udyan was withdrawn following the programme. Traffic movement from Zero Point towards Matsya Bhaban has also resumed.
